Pieces - chapter III
Preface; This mixtape is a study in contrasts—an experiment in tension, release, and the space between. Drawing from across the electronic spectrum, it flows from glitchy breaks to hypnotic ambience, from bass-heavy rollers to late-night introspection. Tempo shifts act like turning points in a narrative, nudging the listener into new states of mind without warning.
It’s designed to keep you on your toes: one moment you're locked into a rhythm, the next you're floating through spacious textures or jolted awake by a percussive snap. These selections were made not just for their sound, but for how they move—each track a chapter in a story that evolves through motion, mood, and momentum.
Best experienced with open ears and a restless spirit.
My moments; It’s a monster… a warning of what's to come. Maxe brings a mysterious, echo filled intro to the proceedings with it’s hanging arpeggiated melody, handing off into Baltra’s 16 Pads with an unexpected tempo and key change just to keep you on your toes. In comes Kimi’s ritual, now we’re getting going! That little melody at 10m, so beautiful, and the way it gives out only a minute later into heavy breaks. 13m, in comes the voice… get ready for another tempo change into Trudge, the suspenseful drop into the darkness is epic. 17m still trudging and there’s so much more heavy fire to come on this track! 20m, a machine gun fire of claps give out to an amazing soundscape and we settle into Nikki Nair, only in this order could this been experienced as a breather.
Where is this going!? Warped, amazing but also combines delicate touches. 18m breaking it back down into Leif, like a meditation space from the noise, but only for a moment. Jasper Tyger for some ear sorbet, refresh the palette…36m the first of two Kieran Hebden (FourTet) tracks that slow things right down before (42m) when we get into analogue minimal fantastica. 52m, amazing notes, bleeps, cascading up & down, I love this track, and the title!
55m industrial noises, like the machine is starting up again. 59m,this track feels like you are doing 160mph down an A road. 1h4m feels like a mission accomplished, a summit of a climb, ending on long drawn-out synths, just because I can, and they sound amazing.
